Scientific Writing Unit
The overall goal of the Scientific Writing Unit (SWU) is to offers academic editing services across the participating institutions. In collaboration with other PRCTRC cores and research programs SWU will support post-doctoral level professionals and junior faculty to become successful researchers addressing minority health and health disparities.

Specific Aim

  1. Support to minority investigators in scientific writing for manuscripts and proposals.
  2. Support investigators with unfunded proposals by establishing a personalized and integrated plan for re-submission.

Main Activities

Academic Editing Services

Editors will carefully read and correct proposals and manuscripts so they will be ready for submission or publication. Whether your manuscript or proposal requires only proofreading services or more comprehensive editing services, editors at the PRCTRC are available to offer the assistance you may need.

Editorial Tasks

The editors agree to perform the following:

  • Proofreading for grammar, spelling, punctuation, language use and expression.
  • Stylistic editing to clarify meaning, eliminate jargon, polish language, assure smoothness and clarity, while maintaining the author’s voice and style.
  • Send back the manuscript to the corresponding author with tracked changes and editor’s comments or queries.

The author will accept or reject tracked changes and address the editor’s comments or queries for final resolution.

We do request that the final version of the submitted manuscript be sent to us for the validation of our services.

  • Then, proceed to fill out the application form, selecting Scientific Writing Unit under the PRCTRC Core Request.

Be assured that the editors and staff from the Scientific Writing Unit will maintain absolute confidentiality, unless consulting services from a third party are agreed upon.
